In the spring of 2007, the management team at Simplicity faced a far reaching strategic decision of enormous consequence to the company. Simplicity had manufactured and fulfilled patterns in Niles, Michigan since the 1930's. At one time the Niles plant had employed as many as 3000 people. Unfortunately, as trends in clothing changed, the market began to decline and the plant became underutilized. In 2001 management decided to examine their manufacturing and fulfillment options. Eric Booker-Vice President of Operations was given the assignment to develop options. As Simplicity worked through the analysis of their options, outsourcing of manufacturing and fulfillment looked more and more like the best long-term solution. The operations team’s list of potential Outsourcing Partners started with 60 potential companies, and was gradually narrowed with Outlook Group being the eventual partner selected. “ Outlook’s total approach to the business was a large factor in choosing them as our long term partner, from computer system support through sales, pre press and complete manufacturing and distribution. Outlook also has the printing capabilities that will continue to benefit Simplicity beyond the original agreement”. -Eric Booker VP Operations Simplicity
